Working Outside the Classroom: Dina Brown’s story

This is the third in NCAE’s new video series, Working Outside the Classroom. It highlights the difficulties North Carolina educators face trying to make ends meet on the low state salaries they receive.

North Carolina is 37th in the nation for teacher pay. As a result, many teachers work second jobs in order to make ends meet. It is commonplace for teachers to spend their own money on classroom supplies, because our state is 39th in the nation for per pupil spending.

This video features social worker Dina Brown. She works with six schools in the Washington County School district, and works part-time for the local hospital as a social worker for skilled care patients.
