“Is it worth this struggle to be a teacher in North Carolina?”

Austin Reese teaches biology and coaches wrestling in Western North Carolina. Like many other educators, he struggles to make ends meet. Austin is dedicated to his students and his community, but asks himself if he’s doing what is best for his family.

Educators in North Carolina are making $9,600 less than the national average. Over the last 10 years their classroom funding has been cut in half when adjusted for inflation. Educators in NC are working multiple jobs and paying out of pocket for their classroom materials.

It’s time our lawmakers prioritize public education again. It’s time to restore school funding to pre-recession levels.
